Dress Up + Dress Down

Yay, it's Friday! I wore this outfit for a casual date night with Tooth. I love tops that you can wear with jeans and heels and then also rock them on super casual days. I've also worn this "fancy" baseball tee with leggings and flip flops while chasing my kids at the park. It's super comfortable and lightweight. In this phase of life, I really need tops that can be worn dressed up and down. This button up baseball tee is a bit older (from Express) but I am linking tons of other tops below that I'm totally digging. They can all be worn dressed up or down!

I got a lot of use out of these wedges! They also come in a beautiful nude color (I've always wanted them in that color, too). These 7 jeans are super stretchy and forgiving. HALLELUJAH for that! #amiright

I know I've already mentioned this cross body bag in previous posts, so you know how much I love it! Same for this Nixon watch. Everything is linked below. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! xo

Fall + Winter Staples

Hola! Today I am wearing one of my favorite tops for fall and winter! I bought it in five colors!! This is such an easy top to throw on when super casual hanging with the kids, but you can also dress it up a bit like I did here for date night.

I absolutely love these tassel earrings and get compliments on them every time they're worn! My jeans are from Pinks Boutique in Bonnie Brae but I linked similar looks below. My booties are old and no longer available but I also linked similar fringe booties below.

I know I've said it before, but this Michael Kors watch is my favorite gold watch! I love that it's so big and makes a statement. I almost always pair it with other bracelets and think investing in a classic watch like this is a must.

This double braid look is a go-to for me when I don't have time to dry and/or curl my hair. I've been asked to make a tutorial on this look. What other things would you guys like tutorials about?? :) I'm really uncomfortable on camera, but I'm gonna give it a shot! Speaking of shots, I may need to throw back a couple before I shoot and post videos! ;) lol jk (kinda)

Instagram Roundup!

Hope you're all having a wonderful Tuesday so far! I am rounding up some of my recent Instagram posts here and relinking the items or blogs so you can shop them. I'm so so excited for fall. As the kids are getting a bit older, I'm so excited to create memories and traditions. What are things you guys recommend doing with little ones. We always try to hit up the pumpkin patch, but what else is there to do with little ones that is super fun? I may attempt to make caramel apples again... Tried that a few years ago and it didn't end well. ;) Would love your recommendations! Craving some beautiful yellow trees. Best spots?!

Cozy Flannel Top for Fall

Hey guys! I am loving oversized, cozy flannels for fall! So comfortable and who doesn't love getting snuggled up for the day in a big, loose top?! I got this adorable flannel boyfriend top while shopping with Tooth in New York. You can find exact top HERE, but I will link similar ones at different price points below. One of my friends who used to live in New York recommended this boutique (& Other Stories) and I fell in love the second I walked in. This was the only boutique I shopped at for myself while there!

These 7 Jeans are so comfortable and forgiving. I love the dark wash and always reach for these on days I need a little more room to move. The bag is a go-to for me these days. This is a much cheaper version of a high-end bag. I love the color and can fit so much stuff in it! I used this bag and wore these birks a ton on our trip in New York. We did lots and lots of walking and my feet were so comfortable!

Ryder's big grin a couple pictures down just kills me! :) I will also link his outfit below! Hope you're all having a wonderful fall Monday. xo

I just loooove this little dude. I can't believe how old he seems lately. He's so funny!

Currently Craving - Shoessss

Hola! Linking some of my new shoes + boots for fall as well as some other accessories. If I don't currently have the items on this list, they are on my wishlist! :) I'm getting so excited for fall weather. I've already busted out my new fall scent candles. Yum! THIS is my current fav.

I don't know why it's taken me so long to get on board with flats/comfier shoes? But I always kick myself because my options in cooler months have been heels, dressier boots and uggs. Leaving me with little options when I want to be really comfortable but also not look super casual.

I decided it was time to up my "flat" game. Being a mom means I need comfortable shoes! So I've linked all these wonderful options below:

1. The studded flats below are my absolute favorite for dressing up with the kiddies! SO cute. These will be a great option when going to a more formal event where I still want to be comfortable, church, etc. They come in many colors and I'm totally loving them!

2. These are Uggs and so comfortable. I love the heel! I know I'll be able to throw these on with anything to make myself feel more put together on casual/busy days. Leggings and boots?! Yes, please!

3. The navy flats below are designed by Ellen Degeneres! They are very casual loafers, but the pointy toe makes it a definite step up from Toms in the "dressy" category. I love these so much. Very flattering.

4. This fun burgundy color will add a little pop to any outfit. I can't WAIT to wear these beauties. I love that they are a little taller (on ankle) so I can wear short socks with them. Sometimes in the winter I end up gravitating toward my super casual and comfy Uggs just because I can't stand the thought of taking off my cozy socks when it's freezing outside!

5. These booties are so beautiful, guys. A must have for any wardrobe! The color will match everything and the heel isn't too high. These look so cute with dresses, skinny jeans, leggings and more. I know I will get a lot of use out of these this fall and winter.

6. This shoe. I love. So comfy and casual. Goes with everything. I prefer this look when wearing casual flats. They come in many colors and I love them all! These are great shoes to have when you're chasing kids at the park and running around. Love.

7. I was a little hesitant to get these. But once I did, I fell in love. I also got Blakers a matching pair (view those HERE) and OMG. I die. I love twinning with her!! These are super casual and fun. Seriously wear these allll the time. Leggings, skinny jeans, shorts, casual dresses, etc. I love them. Huge trend right now. Just jump on the band wagon!

8. Ok, so not all of these items are shoes, obvi. But I wanted to mention this Nixon watch again because I loooove it. I get compliments on it every time I wear it and it feel so different from my go-to classic Michael Kors Watch (HERE). It's light and cute and goes with everything. For reals.

9. Totally crushing on this ring!!!!! GAH. I'm planning to ask Santa for this. I love, love. This comes in many, many color options! :)

10. This bag is so classy! This color is a great neutral and looks much more expensive than it is. It's still pricey, but this is a bag you could use over and over again! It's seriously so pretty. I think adding a nice looking bag to any outfit totally steps up your game! Having a nice bag (or two or ten) is a must! This is where I tend to do the most of my splurging, on nice bags. Because they can last forever and again, truly helps up your outfit!

Blakely's First Birthday Shoot with Kathleen Peachey Photography

Hey guys! I'm so excited to finally be sharing with you our photos from Blakely's first birthday! I had been planning this shoot for a while and knew I wanted a "beachy" look. I know I've said it before, but Kathleen is sooo gifted. She is the sweetest and most calm person I've ever met. I swear when I'm around her all my worries just fly away. It's like magic. Ha. But seriously, I have a ton of friends who have used her for their family shoots and fall in love right away. I get texts like, "you're right, she's the sweetest! I'm in love with the pictures!"

Kathleen is sweet enough to offer my followers a 15% discount when you use the code 'BUTTARCUP'. I promise you won't regret taking the time and money to get some beautiful shots of your family you will cherish forever! Click Kathleen Peachey Photography to see her beautiful website.

Tips for a smooth photoshoot:
1. Know the look or theme you want in advance. I plan far in advance so I'm not rushed or stressed. I usually give myself a month or two to schedule the date, get an idea of the look I want and order clothes needed for anyone.

2.  I usually plan my look first. I've found that I'm the hardest to make look good! LOL I spend time shopping online in the evenings when my babies are asleep and order a few dresses (or whatever I need) online so I have time to try things on and return the ones I don't need for shoot. I like to shop at Nordstrom, ASOS, Gap and Old Navy. All shops ship for free and have free return labels (or you can return in store, which is really convenient.)

3. Once my dress or outfit is chosen, I dress the rest of the family. The boys are usually fairly easy and plain. I spend a little more time on Blakely, making sure all of our outfits go together for the look I'm creating.

4. Once I have all the pieces I think everyone will wear (I usually have a couple options for each kid), I set them all out of the floor and mix and match items until I like the overall look of colors, patterns, textures, etc.

5. I try to get the kids (boys) hair cut at least 1-2 weeks before shooting because fresh cuts don't look quite as natural.

6. I like to make sure my hair is blown out a couple days before we shoot because my hair is best when it isn't too clean. I also like to get my nails painted a couple days before the shoot just so I don't have to worry about that the night before!

7. A day or two before the shoot I make sure all outfits are clean, fit the kids, are ironed and hung up. I set aside shoes, hair bows, snacks, props, etc that will be needed for shoot.

8. The night before the shoot I make sure everyone has their nails cut, hair clean, and in bed on time so they get a good night sleep. Sleep is key to a successful shoot!! If the kids need naps the day of the shoot (before the shoot) I make sure they get in bed on time so they are rested.

9. Day of the shoot all I want to think about is getting ready, dressed and out the door with little to no fuss! I try to get the kids bellies full before we get in the car, so they aren't wanting to snack during the shoot. (I bring snacks for after the shoot is over.)

10. I usually pack an extra top for the little kids just in case something crazy happens and they get dirty, but I've never actually had to use it. Once it's shooting time, just go with the flow. Messes happen. Just try to have fun and make the most of it. I try to really play and interact with my babies during shoots so they feel more natural and I'm not forcing them to pose. Kids hate posing.

The great news is, if you use Kathleen, you are guaranteed a good shoot! I'm not kidding, she's the best!! :) Blakely fell asleep in the car on the way to this shoot (the kiss of death for a smooth shoot) and I was so upset. But what can you do?! She woke up SOO, so cranky. Which is unusual for her. She was a mess the entire shoot. We couldn't get one smile out of her and I was devastated. Poor Kathleen just kept trying and trying. We did every trick in the book.

On the way home from the shoot, I was almost in tears over the thought that we got no good pictures. So much thought and energy went into the shoot and I was just sad about it. Once we got home, Blakely started throwing up everywhere (ew, sorry. Gross.) Poor girl. But then the next day Kathleen sent me a few shots as a preview and I was sooo happy. I don't know how she managed, but she did it! Look at these beautiful photos she got!! (Insert tear.) Once again, I am in love with the pictures and can't wait to add these framed beauties to our home.
