All About Pregnancy #2

How did you find out you were pregnant?
My husband and I were ready and looking forward to getting pregnant with baby #2. I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and was told by my doctor a long time ago to always plan on it being very difficult to get pregnant. When we got pregnant with Ryder I was taking ovulation tests daily so I knew when it was prime time. We were very, very lucky and got pregnant within two months! My doctor was shocked and told me not to expect this when trying for baby number two. So when we decided we were ready to go for it, we knew we just needed to relax and take it month by month. Surprisingly, we got pregnant right away! Once again, so lucky and so grateful for this blessing!

I wasn’t expecting to get pregnant so quickly and wasn’t taking pregnancy tests because we weren’t really calculating and I wasn’t taking ovulation tests daily yet. One day I was rocking Ryder before nap-time and the rocking chair made me queasy. I thought , “What?! Maybe I should take a test? Ugh, but I’m gonna get my hopes up and it’s gonna be negative.” But I took one anyway. I kinda of forgot about it. I was busy doing my “mom chores” during nap-time when I remembered I had taken it and looked over to see “1-2 weeks pregnant”! I was in SHOCK! My heart started racing. Of course I took another test to make sure. I was overwhelmed with emotion and so excited!

How did you tell Tooth you were pregnant?
I waited to tell Tooth because I wanted to surprise him. I knew he wouldn’t be expecting it because we hadn’t been “trying” like last time. It was the day before Thanksgiving and we went on a date night out to get sushi and to a movie. I had wrapped up the positive pregnancy test and put it in a mini stocking as an early Christmas gift for him.

While we were waiting for our sushi I told him I had an early Christmas gift for him. He wasn’t expecting it and guessed that it was an ornament. LOL (We have a tradition of getting one new ornament a year for our family Christmas tree with the kids.) When he opened it, it took a minute for him to register what it was. His jaw dropped and he was silent! I just laughed and he said “NO WAY!!!! Seriously?!” ☺

I knew he would be surprised but his reaction was priceless and I wish I had videoed it! We spent the rest of the night talking about how blessed we were by our babies and I sipped on water and ate California rolls while he had a cocktail and sashimi. LOL  Ahhh … the joys of pregnancy. We were both in shock but also so excited. We had a great night celebrating and day dreaming of whether or not it was a boy or girl. I’ll never forget the look on his face!

Best part of pregnancy?
Feeling/seeing her move is one of my favorite things! Watching my bump get bigger is fun because you can SEE her move and kick in there. Pregnancy is so strange because it’s such a roller coaster of ups and downs. I was just telling my hubby yesterday that I really want to soak up these last few days because as miserable as it can be, I know I’ll miss it when it’s over. I remember missing feeling Ryder move around in my belly after he was born. It’s the strangest thing… being so connected to your baby before you’ve even met. It’s amazing. And impossible to explain!

Worst Part of pregnancy?
Ugh, where to begin? LOL Nausea, headaches, back aches, trouble sleeping, peeing every 10 minutes, bending over – well, really just moving at all. HA! I have had really bad leg spasms with both pregnancies. At the end of the day my legs go crazy kicking all over the place! I have been overheating a lot this summer. Ryder is all dude and the poor kid just wants to play outside, but the heat gets me every time. Carrying Ryder while also carrying around a massive bump has been challenging. I can’t wait to hold Ryder close again! He gets frustrated that my belly is in the way when I rock him to sleep. I have also been sick a lot this pregnancy. When I was pregnant with Ryder I think I got one minor cold. NBD. This time I had flu and/or cold 5 times!!! So difficult. Especially when a toddler is involved. Those weeks were really rough!!!

Have your pregnancies been different?
YES! So different. Which is what led me to believe it was a girl – but I tried not to get my hopes up because I know some people who have had very different pregnancies and they have same sex children. I had a very smooth pregnancy with Ryder. I felt pregnant and not 100% myself, but overall, the pregnancy was pretty easy until the last 6 weeks – which were pretty miserable. This pregnancy was harder. I felt nausea all the time. I also felt SOOOO TIRED. Like, I can’t move because I’m so tired. The overwhelming exhaustion has been killer this time. I kept thinking I would have more energy later on … but it never happened. The nausea got better, but the exhaustion was intense and still is.

I’ve just been more uncomfortable in general this pregnancy but all the other stuff is kind of similar (headaches, back aches, leg spasms, etc) it’s just MUCH harder to be pregnant while also taking care of a toddler who is still so little and doesn’t understand what pregnancy is. Strangely, this pregnancy has been easiest in my third trimester. I obviously have a lot of physical pains and challenges, but I’ve had a little more energy and haven’t been overly miserable like I was the last 6 weeks with Ryder! I have days where I just want it to END! But overall, the third trimester hasn’t been too shabby this time. And… I’ve been much more emotional this pregnancy for whatever reason?

Cravings?
My cravings have been all over the place. In the beginning, I felt so sick! I ate a lot of bagels and breads. It was the only thing that didn’t make me sick! I still crave my mini bagels and split one with Ryder almost every morning ☺

There was a phase where all I wanted was chips and salsa. Then it switched to being obsessed with Cadbury eggs! I had one a day for over a month. OMG… Yikes! LOL I have craved comfort food the entire pregnancy. Mac and cheese, pizza, etc. I normally love fruit but couldn’t eat it at the beginning of the pregnancy, which was so strange! But I love it again. I have also craved ice cream, which is unusual for me. I’m usually a slurpee, sour straw, laffy taffy kind of gal ;)

How did you find out the gender?
We did a gender reveal for both pregnancies (check out my Gender Reveal blog post!) and I’m so glad we did. Both were amazing moments and memories and I’m so glad we captured it!

Here are a couple pictures from our maternity photo shoot we did when I was 30 weeks pregnant. I love these pictures and I am getting SO EXCITED to meet this baby girl! :) We love her so much already!!

Keeping It Cool

I've been loving flow-y dresses lately. I usually gravitate toward fitted clothing when pregnant because I feel like loose things can just make you look bigger! But ... anything to stay cool in the blazing heat! This bump of mine sure is getting big. But I'm starting to realize that it'll be gone soon and I'm going to miss all her kicks and movement in there.

This dress is not maternity and I love that I will be able to wear it again after this big bump of mine is gone. I have a hard time spending money on clothes at this point in pregnancy because I know they won't get a ton of use. So buying things that I will be able to wear for now and again after the baby is here is always a bonus. I've also been loving this bag. It matches everything and when I don't have to take my diaper bag somewhere, I just grab this and go.

Date Night

This outfit is so comfy and easy to wear while chasing around a crazy toddler. I wore this for a date night with Tooth, otherwise I would have had flip flops on! :) These H&M khakis are really stretchy and I love that I can run errands and be busy without getting the "grandma knee" look. HA!

I also LOVE this new clutch. It also has a chain attached to it, which is so convenient. I love having the option and I also love being hands free (even without a toddler around). My wedges look really high, but still really comfortable because the platform is making them look taller than they actually are. I love platforms for that reason! I also love that my hubby is 6'5", so I can get away with any shoe height.

Quick thank you to all who have reached out to me about going into the hospital yesterday. My contractions haven't completely gone away, but they are much better! I should probably be taking it easy but I have SO much to do before this baby girl gets here. We have gotten a lot done today and I'm starting to feel a little more prepared for her arrival. Next up: packing hospital bag!

Casual in Denim

I’ve been struggling with the heat this past week! It makes a HUGE difference when you’re in the last months of pregnancy! Yikes. I’ve been pulling my hair up into a messy bun or ballerina bun almost every day just to stay cool. I love these leggings and chambray top because they are so cool. And I can easily take off the chambray top and just wear my tank underneath if I get too hot. This is an easy outfit for me to wear while chasing a very busy toddler!

I was laughing so hard when I saw these pics becase sometimes I forget JUST how big this bump is. LOL I swear I don’t think I can get any bigger and then – BAM! This belly gets bigger! I’m loving feeling her move and now Tim can easily SEE her moving around in there and I love that. I really can’t believe she’s going to be here so soon!! AHHHH… I’m so excited but also having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that I will be a mom to TWO little ones. And a GIRL. I still can’t believe it! I can’t wait to see Tooth with her and just the thought melts me. I don’t think he realizes how much she’s going to have him wrapped around her finger ☺

Hues of Blues

Hey guys! Just trying to keep cool over here in this 95+ degree heat!

These white capris are pretty comfy and this outfit is so easy to throw on when you have 5 minutes to get ready in the morning. This is my new MK watch I got for my birthday. Been loving that it’s so over sized! I fell in love with these earrings the second I walked into the store and love that they are so lightweight.

Staying in the shade (or better yet, AC!) is a must these days. If I do go out wearing heels I always throw a pair of flipflops in my car juuuust in case ;-) My feet and back get achy quicker than usual these days.

This past week our AC unit stopped working! Oh. My. Gosh. You guys. It’s 80+ degress in my house and beyond miserable. The thought of having 5 more weeks makes me want to cry in pain and also relieved that I still have time to get things organized around here. It’s a very confusing mix of emotions! LOL Hopefully we’ll have someone out to fix this problem ASAP. Until then, we have 6 fans in the house and I may or may not fall asleep with an ice pack on my neck!

Queen of Hearts

Hey guys! This dress is from ASOS and it’s so comfy! It’s soft and stretchy and the pattern is so fun. The weather here has been so rainy and cool (considering it's summer) and this long sleeve dress has been perfect.

I have been getting so hot lately – thanks hormones! UGH! So dresses are a go-to for me lately. Wearing tight leggings or denim just seems to trap in the heat even more. This long sleeve dress wouldn’t be good for a hot summer day, but for these cooler days or a date night, it’s great.

When I’m pregnant, sometimes wearing jewelry makes me feel claustrophobic. So weird. So keeping my hair off my neck and my jewelry to a minimum helps me stay cool and feeling comfortable.
35 week bump :)

Maternity Photo Shoot

I love maternity photos! I’ve always thought pregnant women were so beautiful and it’s so amazing to see life growing in someone’s belly! But when you’re the one pregnant… you experience it all… the good, the bad and the ugly. So getting dressed up and taking pictures to capture the “good” and the cute baby belly is always fun.

My good friend recommended a photographer she loves and we decided to shoot outside. I had this idea in my mind of shooting somewhere with lots of colorful flowers behind us. I thought it was perfect timing, being early May. WRONG. Classic Colorado. Snowing in early May. Snow came in and wiped out all the flowers that had bloomed. I was so bummed. But I decided to still go ahead with the location (Hudson Gardens) because it’s so pretty and it’s close to home. This way Ryder could swing by for a few pics with my bump as well without it being too much of a hassle.

We had the shoot planned and had to cancel because of the crazy rainy weather. What a pain! When we rescheduled it was another gloomy day with a 65% chance of thunderstorms. I was nervous we’d get all ready and then it would start to rain on us. And let me just say, I do NOT look cute wet. LOL This crazy lion mane of mine gets the tiniest bit of moisture and LOOK OUT. There is a reason one of my nicknames is “Simba”.

We went ahead with the shoot and it turned out great. It was the perfect temperature the entire shoot and the sun even peaked out for a bit. Our photographer found a tree that had white blooms on it and they look great in the pics! I was so happy to get some flowers in the background of a few shots. ☺

Our family has used lots of different photographers in the past. I love mixing it up and trying different styles of photography for different occasions. We’ve loved everyone we’ve used and been so lucky to get great family pictures. Anna from Newell Jones and Jones Photography was great! She gave us amazing direction. Telling us where to go, how to stand, what to adjust, etc. I loved the guidance. She was also so sweet and it was fun working with her.

To top it off, I love how the pics turned out! So happy with them and I know I will miss this bump once it’s gone. Having a big bump 24-7 makes even the simplest tasks difficult. But I remember when Ryder was very little that I missed my bump. And before I knew it I had baby fever again and looking forward to having a cute baby bump once again.

I’m so glad my hubby is willing to do these shoots with me. These are moments and pictures I will cherish forever. I already look back at some shoots we did when Ryder was little and my heart just melts thinking back on the different experiences and phases we’ve been through together as a family. Here are some of my favorite shots!

Seattle - Our Last Trip Before Baby Girl

My husband is an endodontist (root canal specialist) and every other year we take a trip for his continued education. About a month ago we traveled to Seattle for the endo meeting. These trips are hosted in different cities and it’s always fun to have an excuse to get away and to catch up with some of Tooth’s dental buddies. Neither of us had been to Seattle. I was prepared for it to rain the entire time. Which was ok with me because I had big plans to lie in bed watching TV and ordering room service all day long! But we actually got so lucky and had the best weather while we were there. We had a BLAST!

I was nervous leaving Ryder again, but much more relaxed this time around.  We did a lot of lying around in the room eating, watching TV, reading, etc. But we were also able to walk around the city and had so much fun. Once again, our trip revolved around food! LOL We had so much fun at the Public Market trying different pastries, desserts, checking out famous hot dog stands, etc. We also spent one afternoon at the Space Needle … and the views – wow! We bought the “fast pass” wondering if it would be worth it and, you guys, it was!  We zipped through the line so fast and my pregnant feet and back were so thankful we didn’t have to stand in line for over an hour to get to the top!

We had tons of fun hanging together and relaxing on this trip.  We loved the city and had a blast catching up with Tim’s good friends each night at dinner.

Walking through the Public Market trying new foods was so fun and so delicious!

Seattle's Famous Hot Dogs!

Most of my mornings consisted of pancakes in bed and watching TV while Tooth was in class.

Space Needle adventures

Tooth has a fear of heights. LOL See his death grip ;)

The views were beautiful. The pictures never compare!

Our friend told us we "HAD" to see the famous Gum Wall in the city. It's so cool and so gross! The entire alley was covered in gum.

Our last night in Seattle and last day of vacation before our baby girl gets here.
